Cette femme, arrivée à Vichy qu'une quinzaine de jours avant sa mort, avait défrayé la chronique en faisant croire qu'elle était une cantinière des Zouaves, multi-décorée pour ses actions lors des guerres de Crimée, du Mexique, du Tonkin... Elle eut le droit à des obsèques quasi-officielles et une souscription avait même été lancée pour lui offrir un monument funéraire avant que la supercherie ne soit découverte, peu de temps après son décès.
