Description
English: Top deck of the Hoegh Osaka, at berth 101, Southampton. The orange man fooled me for a while, but then I realised he was a dummy. There is razor wire along the railings upon either side of the winches for lowering the ro-ro ramp, which is here seen in its lowered position (i.e. off picture bottom). Probably these precautions date from the period the ship was grounded on Brambles Bank (see File:The Hoegh Osaka - stuck on the Bramble Bank (2) (geograph 4302727).jpg) when it may have been feared that someone could board the ship by climbing up the wire ropes or the ramp structure itself. Alternatively, it's a precaution against pirates generally. For a wider view see Link
