Merovingian disc brooch circa (600-625 AD)

Summary edit

Description
English: Disc fibula of Rosmeer, a Merovingian disc brooch (600-625 AD) found in 1969 in a woman's grave at Diepstraat in Rosmeer (near Tongeren), Belgium. The grave had been plundered but the brooch may have been hidden underneath cloths. The grave (nr. 90) also contained a glass beker and a gold coin of 610-620 AD. Gold plate, symmetrically decorated with filigree work in gold, and inlays of red almandine from Bohemia or India, as well as white and dark blue glass. Diameter: 6.4 cm. The Greek cross in the centre may indicate a Christian burial. Collection of Gallo-Romeins Museum, Tongeren. Photographed at the temporary exhibition Top or Topic in Centre Céramique in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
