Description
English: Ancient Roman limestone votive stone with inscription (c. 150 AD) found in 2016 in Aachen-Büchel, Germany. At least ten votive altars were discovered here, two of them with inscriptions of dedications to beneficiaries (members of a consul's staff in provincial towns) . The inscription on this stone reads: I(ovi) O(ptimo) M(aximo) / ET GENIO / IVL(ii) SEVERI / CO(n)S(ularis) ATTIC(us) / SEVERUS / B EIUS D(edicavit). Translation: "To the best and greatest Jupiter and to the genius of the consul Julius Severus has Atticus Severus, his beneficiary, dedicated (this stone)".
