36.º 06-06-2012 A Igreja Matriz de Moncorvo é o templo de maiores dimensões em Trás-os-Montes e tem como orago Nossa Senhora da Assunção. A fachada principal, inserida numa imponente torre de cantaria que lhe acentua a verticalidade, ostenta um portal renascença de arco pleno, flanqueado por dois pares de colunas coríntias assentes em plintos comuns. Entre os colunelos, duas edículas e duas imagens. Sobre o entablamento, surge outro conjunto iconográfico, constituído por três imagens entre colunas da mesma ordem mas menores, dentro de nichos barrocos, recortados em concha. Rematando a composição, rasga-se uma janela envidraçada também de arco pleno, recortada entre dois colunelos e sobrepujada por um frontão vazado assente na arquitrave. No registo superior abrem-se duas janelas de verga recta, sobrepujadas pelas ventanas dos sinos, em arco de volta perfeita. A cerca de 30 metros de altura, no topo da torre, situa-se uma balaustrada em granito. O alçado lateral sul apresenta-se apoiado em sete contrafortes, existindo entre o terceiro e o quarto um portal protegido por um enorme alpendre abobadado, que ostenta a data de 1567 e inclui uma imagem de Nossa Senhora do Coberto. O alçado lateral norte mostra igual número de contrafortes e apresenta um portal em arco pleno, tendo nele sido esculpida a data de 1566 e um relevo mostrando a imagem do Padre Eterno. O alçado posterior apresenta uma capela-mor com três vãos de iluminação. |
