| Description |
English: Toton Yard 20037 drifts past Toton depot with a brace of wagons. It is on shunting duties within the yard. Note the lamp that the shunter has left on the solebar. Beside are a string of merry-go-round hoppers for local power stations. Behind, on the left are another group of sidings. Toton, along with Tinsley, was a large yard built at the beginning of the 1960's to handle the marshalling of wagon load freight. Within two decades that type of freight had been superseded by block trains and containers. The yards declined and Toton is today a shadow of its former self. |
