| Description |
The Eiffel Tower looks pretty delicate from a distance, but the closer I get to it, the sturdier and more imposing it gets. Here is the detail of the intricate ironwork that gives the tower its character and strength. The details are both decorative and functional. Gustave Eiffel, the structural engineer who designed this tower and for whom the tower is named, had done another famous structural work a few years earlier: the skeletal frame of the Statue of Liberty, which was built here in Paris in 1884 before being shipped off to New York City. |
