Summary edit
DescriptionTower clock movement.png |
English: Cutaway drawing of a tower clock, showing the movement, face, bell, driving weights, and lines linking them, from a book on clocks. The turret clock movement (center) kept time with a long pendulum, and was powered by two large hanging weights (bottom): one to run the timing train and one to run the striking mechanism. The movement turned a vertical shaft that through bevel gears turned four horizontal shafts to turn hands on the four clock faces on the sides of the tower. The movement also struck the hours on the bell (top). Alterations to image: removed yellowing at corners of page, increased contrast, and removed scanning artifacts due to bleed-through of text on opposite side of page. |
