Summary edit

Description
English: Towers on George IV Bridge, Edinburgh On the left is the pavilion roof of the Edinburgh Central Public Library, built in the 1880s, with a "two-stage octagonal lantern derived from the Hotel d'Ecoville at Caen". The building is on Cowgate, way below the bridge.

Nearer is the tower of Augustine United Church at the corner of Merchant Street, completed in 1861. The tower has eight ball-finials and is surmounted by "a frivolous pagoda spire of three diminishing octagonal stages; at the second, a boldly cantilevered balcony with ironwork balustrade".

Seen from the National Museum of Scotland's roof terrace.
