Summary
editDescriptionTown of Morrison, Colorado, USA 5.jpg |
English: The small town of Morrison, Colorado is near Denver. This is the type area for the Morrison Formation, an Upper Jurassic succession that is widely distributed in many western American states. The Morrison consists of fluvial (river/floodplain) and lacustrine (lake) deposits, plus paleosol horizons. Dinosaur bones and dinosaur tracks are moderately common in Morrison Formation sediments. Exceptionally rich Morrison dinosaur localities include Como Bluff in Wyoming, Dinosaur National Monument in Utah, Dinosaur Ridge in Colorado, and the Cleveland-Lloyd Quarry in Utah.
Locality: view from "Quarry 10" (= one of Arthur Lakes' dinosaur excavation sites during the Cope-Marsh Bone Wars of the late 1800s), on Dinosaur Ridge, just north of the town of Morrison, west of Denver, north-central Colorado, USA |
