| Description |
English: Tràigh Crionaig Marram grass in the centre of the picture, this was the favourite thatching material on Tiree. At one time so much was being taken at an unsustainable rate so the Duke of Argyll tried to stop it. People took to cutting under the cover of darkness. It was said you spent more time sharpening the scythe because the sandy soil blunted the blade so quickly. |
