DescriptionTram landing passengers from lighter at Nome, circa 1908.jpg |
English: Passengers being carried from a lighter to shore by an overhead tram. Ships could not get close to shore at Nome, so passengers and freight were both carried in by lighters. A cable system drew the lighter to shore; the tram was used to unload freight and sometimes passengers from the lighter. On other occasions the passengers reached the beach by a simple gangplank. |
