Summary edit

Description
English: Canon EOS 5Ds, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM with Novoflex Castel Cop Digi

My archive with 35 mm films and slides goes back about 40 years. To move parts of it to digital I first thought about a systematic transfer with a specialized service or buying a dedicated film scanner.

My first attempts with a Minolta film scanner were below expectations. Also intensive tests with CanoScan 9000F did not really satisfy. The scan time was too long.

Finally, I added the 100 mm Macro to my gear and purchased a separate slide holder from Novoflex. Photographing the slide or film with the 5 D2 and the 100 mm macro lens, I got acceptable results, also the processing was fast enough.

Now with the 5 Ds and 50 Megapixel Sensor I get, in my eyes, an amazing god Quality.

How it works: •Mount the Novoflex Holder on a good tripod •Take the EOS 5 DS and the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM •Adjust the film or slide in the Novoflex holder •Until now I used daylight as light source •Check with the viewfinder •Set setting to fix Aperture (f7.1) and 100 or 200 ISO, RAW •Set the shutter release time lag to 1 second •Use a Remote switch •Normally I do not use bracketing, but could be an Idea to improve dynamic range •Release the shutter of the EOS 5 Ds/R •Repeat for the next slide

Processing •Transfer the pix’s to Lightroom •You have specially with color negatives to define the appropriate settings in LR •Define the settings for each type of film and set it as Lightroom preset

•In addition to the defined preset, you have to adjust each shot as you do it for digital shots
