English: Schematic diagram of a transitron oscillator circuit. The transitron, invented in 1939 by Cleto Brunetti, was a negative resistance oscillator that used a pentode vacuum tube. It worked by negative transconductance between the screen and suppressor grid. It replaced the dynatron oscillator after WW2 in applications like local oscillators in superheterodyne radio receivers and beat frequency oscillators. |
