English: Transport for London Safety & Citizenship "Learning Bus L2" (reg. X667 LLX), a 2000 Dennis Dart SLF midibus with Plaxton Pointer MkII bodywork, pictured parked up in the London Transport Museum's Acton depot. Bought by TfL from dealer Ensignbus in May 2009, it's operated by the museum on the TfL funded Safety & Citizenship programme, run by the museum's education department. This is a free service offered to London schools, designed to prepare 10 & 11-year old school children for using buses on their own when they enter secondary education. For the programme, the bus wears an allover red livery with a London Buses white roundel and TfL Safety & Citizenship fleetnames, complete with the strapline by london transport museum. It's identified as "Learning Bus L2" using its front destination & route number display, with the "L2" being repeated on the rear route number display as seen here.
L2 was originally Metroline bus DLM150. The 150th Dart bought by the north London operator, DLM150 was the first of the 10-strong DLM class of very small 8.8m long 26-seat single-doored 'Mini Pointer Darts', numbered in the company's overall Dart series as DLM150-160. Along with sister bus DLM151, it went into service on the Potters Bar town service route PB1, for which they initially wore PB1 route branding over their Metroline livery of red & blue. It stayed on the PB1 for all but its last year of service, being withdrawn in March 2009 and sold to Ensign. L2 is one of a pair of buses used on the programme, the other being "Learning Bus L1". They both wear the same livery and were acquired at the same time. In contrast to the Dart midibus, L1 is a full size single-decker - a 1997 Optare Excel delivered new to Ipswich Buses as their fleet no. 188. Both L1 & L2 are stored in the Acton depot when not in use, along with other TfL service vehicles such as the mobile exhibition vans. |
