This screen shot is of a revision history of the Wikipedia article "Neonicotinoid", showing an example of vandalism on Wikipedia. The article was vandalized shortly after the announcement by the European Union on 29 April 2013 that it would ban the use of this class of chemical insecticides.

The vandalism makes reference to "tree huggers", a derogatory term for environment advocates, as well as a derogatory use of the word "vagina". The latter example of vandalism came one year and one month after the report by the Wikimedia Foundation of their 2011 editors survey that showed that only 9% of editors on Wikipedia identified as "female". Vandalism that uses the idea of a part of the anatomy of a female that is a fundamental defining trait of the symbolism behind the concept of being female makes Wikipedia an unsafe space for women, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
