Description
English: The seizure by Captain Wilks, of the United States war-ship San Jacinto, of Messers. Slidell and Mason, Confederate Commissioner, on board the British mail-steamer Trent
Français : L'USS San Jacinto, appartenant à la flotte des États-Unis, fait stopper le HMS Trent, un navire courrier britannique transportant à son bord deux envoyés de la Confédération. En violation des lois internationales, les diplomates et leur famille sont arrêtés et transférés à bord du San Jacinto pour être ramenés en territoire américain. L'incident provoque une crise très grave entre les États-Unis et la Grande-Bretagne et le président Lincoln doit faire relâcher les émissaires afin d'éviter une déclaration de guerre.
