Description
English: The tribal population in the Ladakh region exceeds 97 percent. The region is home to various Scheduled Tribes, including Balti, Beda, Bot, Boto, Brokpa, Drokpa, Dard, Shin, Changpa, Garra, and Mon. The image depicts the ceremonial Citipati mask. Citipati is a fierce deity and one of Mahakala's many forms. He is also revered as a significant protector of the teachings in Tibetan and Vajrayana Buddhism. In Tibet, Buddhist monks perform a unique "cham dance" ritual twice a year, donning Citipati masks and dancing in the monastery graveyard. The Citipati skull mask serves as a symbol of life's transience and the perpetual cycle of birth and death.
