English: Down empties near Tring. View SE, towards London: WCML. Even on a Saturday in the early 1950s there was much freight and mineral traffic up to London on the WCML. Here a coal empties from Sudbury Sidings (Willesden) is approaching Tring on the Down Slow line, quite likely bound for Toton Yard via Rugby and Leicester, with Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48129 (built early 1941, withdrawn 3/66). Note the Intermediate colour-light signal on the gantry. |
