English: Tripe- neatly sliced
'This is my aunt', my guide told me. 'Oh great, so what is she selling', I asked him, after greeting the lady with a cheerful 'sabaidee'. (the local Lao greeting like namaste or mabuhay). 'Buffalo stomach',my guide informed me. So this is apparently tripe. I've seen large pock marked sheets hung up to dry on Nat Geo tv of tripe shops (and restaurants) in Italy, but this is the first time I was seeing tripe being sold in reality, and also cut into such neat strips and bundled so neatly. (Luang Prabang, Laos/ Lao PDR, April 2014) |
