Description
Русский: Николай Пименов. "Торжество христианства, или Ниспровержение идолов". 1850-1854. Русский музей.

Композиция, символизировавшая город Киев, предназначалась для украшения Благовещенского моста в Петербурге и представляла одну из четырех групп, утвержденных к установке. Этот ансамбль не был осуществлен. Из 4 групп в бронзу перевели только одну.

Один из первых отливов, сделанный на заводе А. Морана, экспонировался в 1862 году на Всемирной выставке в Лондоне, где привлек внимание знатоков искусства не только высоким технологическим исполнением бронзового отлива, но и своим сюжетом.

Изображено принятие христианства Русью. Фигура воина с щитом и мечом -- святой Владимир, который попирает языческого идола Перуна. На щите изображение архангела Михаила с горящим мечом в руке. У ног князя - сосуд с надписью "Днепр", в котором происходило Крещение.
