Nederlands: Gravure. Gravure van de houtgrond Berg en Dal aan de Surinamerivier. Berg en Dal, of Bergendaal was een grensplantage, en als zodanig kwetsbaar voor aanvallen van marrons. Marrons, voormalige slaven die hadden weten te vluchten naar het moeilijk toegankelijke binnenland, overvielen geregeld plantages voor goederen. Vaak sloten plantageslaven zich dan bij hen aan, en vluchtten mee.
Behalve een houtgrond, was Berg en Dal (of Berg-en-Daal, in Sranan Tongo Bergi genoemd) ook een vestigingsplaats van de Moravische zending en hoofdstation van de goudzoekers. Ten tijde van de afschaffing van de slavernij, Emancipatie, op 1 juli 1863, werkten er 318 slaven. De houtgrond ligt tussen de houtgrond Karelswoud en de Polloniekreek..
