Description
English: The "turtle-woman" of Demerara. Her mother was frightened by a turtle while pregnant, which was attributed to be the cause of her deformity. She never had rickets or any similar conditons, but she died in the Colonial Hospital of syphilis. Gave birth to a normal child at 22. Reported in the Lancet of London.
