www.archives.saltresearch.org/R/37SI7UVYXJU2AFLQBSG5KA8PV... The Twin Palaces on the seaside of Meclis-i Mebusan Street were built by the architect Garabet Amira Balyan on the order of Sultan Abdülmecit for his two daughters Cemile Sultan and Münire Sultan between 1856-1859. Cemile Sultan Palace served as parliaments “Meclis-i Mebusan” and “Meclis-i Ayan” during the late Ottoman period. In 1926 it became the Academy of Fine Arts. The archives and library were destroyed along with the building in a fire in 1948. After reconstruction, led by Sedad Hakkı Eldem, the palace reopened in 1953 and was used as a military headquarters. Today these two buildings are home to Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
