Summary edit

Description
English: A couple of old buses now with the Cavan and Leitrim Railway in the Republic of Ireland, seen here next to their workshop in Dromod, Co. Leitrim. Both are Leyland chassis buses, and both used to wear this cream and blue livery in passenger service, but that's pretty much where the similarity ends....

On the left is the former No. R541 (reg. ZO 6960), one of the Irish state rail/bus operator CIE's R class. It was the first of a batch of 6 high spec coaches delivered in 1953 for the express service to Dublin Airport, operated in Aer Lingus colours. They had locally built CIE bodywork, featuring flat front, and a centre door and staircase layout - the rear being used for a luggage compartment. The chassis was the Leyland built Titan OPD2. They were later rebuilt to standard bus configuration in 1964, before finally being withdrawn ten years later.

On the right is the former No. 4130 (reg. YOX 130K), a 1971 Park Royal bodied Daimler Fleetline (CRG6LX), delivered new to the West Midlands PTE. Withdranwn in 1985, it was converted by the PTE into a playbus, being sold to the National Playbus Association of Bristol in April 1985. Soon after it was exported to Ireland for Barnardo's, Dublin, in December 1986, receiving the Irish plate ZS 8621 it still wears here. It was bought by the railway in March 2001, arriving in December 2001.

Blue and cream were the house colours of WMPTE, developed from the livery of the earlier Birmingham City Transport, which it had absorbed in 1969. It is said to have been the inspiration for CIE's blue & cream livery, which it rolled out in the 1960s, before later changing to tan slowly, from 1974 (but with front engined buses such as R541 never being repainted).
