Summary
editDescriptionTwo pairs of eyes - Inachis io - geograph.org.uk - 1430557.jpg |
English: Two pairs of eyes - Inachis io Better known as the Peacock, this butterfly breeds and raises its young in stinging nettles while preferring as an adult to feed off buddleia, sedum, agrimony, and rotting fruit. Often found in gardens. The "eyes" which are intended to deter birds and lizards, are not only its sole defence mechanism as it also scares off enemies by rapidly flapping its wings thereby making a noise.
This Peacock has lost a section of underwing and was one of a cloud on a buddleia bush including Painted Lady, Red Admiral and Comma. |
