Summary edit

Description
English: Tyrley Wharf, Shropshire Union Canal. The buildings here are dated 1840 at the far end by the top lock and 1837 on the house at this end. A wide "winding hole*" in the foreground is for turning boats up to seventy feet (21.34 metres) in length. Narrowboat "The Old Swan" seen here is of that dimension, the longest which can be accommodated in the locks. * This name is pronounced "wind-ing" as in a strong breeze.
