SLAC IS A NATIONAL FACILITY FOR EXPERIMENTAL & THEORETICAL RESEARCH IN ELEMENTARY PARTICLE PHYSICS, & THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW TECHNOLOGY IN HIGH ENERGY ACCELERATORS & ELEMENTARY PARTICLE DETECTORS. THE LABORATORY, AT THE FOREFRONT OF RESEARCH INTO THE BASIC CONSTITUENTS OF MATTER AND OF THE FORCES THAT ACT BETWEEN THEM, IS USED BY SCIENTISTS FROM UNIVERSITIES AND OTHER LABORATORIES WORLDWIDE. STANFORD UNIVERSITY OPERATES SLAC UNDER CONTRACT TO DOE.
