Description

The German Imperial Navy submarine UC 5 during its capture in 1916. UC 5 was a German Type UC I U-boat and commissioned on 19 June 1915 at Hamburg. She served in the First World War under the command of Herbert Pustkuchen (June 1915 - December 1915) and Ulrich Mohrbutter (December 1915 - April 1916). She ran aground on Shipwash Shoal while on patrol on 27 April 1916 (51°59′N 1°38′E) and was scuttled, but the charges failed to explode. Her crew were captured by the British destroyer HMS Firedrake.
