Description

Lahore, January 28 2016 -- United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director John Groarke distributed 40 motorbikes today to dairy sector technicians and highlighted the achievements of the USAID-funded Dairy Project.


The motorbikes were distributed to newly trained artificial insemination technicians on a cost-share basis. The vehicles will enable the technicians to provide services to outlying villages.


“The U.S. Government is committed to the creation of employment opportunities for the people of Pakistan through dairy and livestock development,” Mr. Groarke said. “The United States will continue to support the livelihoods of farmers and rural youth through initiatives like the Dairy Project.”


The Dairy and Rural Development Foundation (DRDF), through USAID’s Dairy Project, is transforming the dairy sector by promoting breed improvement, skill development, and best dairy farming practices. “Our combined efforts will help maximize Pakistan’s dairy and livestock output,” DRDF Chairman, Dr. Salman Shah said.


U.S. Consul General Zachary Harkenrider and USAID Punjab Director, Dr. Miles Toder also attended today’s event at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS). Other attendees included Nestle Chairman Syed Yawar Ali, UVAS Dean of Life Sciences Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad, Engro Foods representative Daood Memon, and Dairy Project Chief of Party Jakob Moser.
