Description
English: Kevin Kasal, right, and Kelly Kasal, along with Kelly's girlfriend, Sarah Winters, speak to their brother, Sgt. Maj. Bradley A. Kasal, after he was awarded the Navy Cross on May 1, 2006, via live video teleconference at the Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. The VTC was arranged in order to allow Gerald Kasal, the Marine's severely ill father who couldn't travel, to witness the ceremony. Unfortunately, he passed away on April 30. Kasal, who was also promoted to the rank of sergeant major during the ceremony at Camp Pendleton, Calif., earned the Marine Corps' second highest award for combat heroism by selflessly shielding a Marine from an exploding grenade thus saving his life in Fallujah, Iraq, in November 2004. Kasal, a 39-year-old native of Afton, Iowa, is scheduled to return to his home state at the end of May to serves as the sergeant major of the Marine Corps recruiting station headquartered in Des Moines.
