Description
English: Cpl. Joey Ellis, Marine Attack Squadron 231 aviation ordnanceman, carefully drives an inert version of a Guided Bomb Unit 16 (GBU-16) -- a MK-83 1,000-pound bomb modified with a Paveway II laser guidance kit -- into position under a VMA-223 AV-8B Harrier at the Combat Arms Loading Area here April 6. Other VMA-231 Marines wait under the wing to direct and quickly attach the bomb to one of the jet's loading stations using Preload Accessory Suspension Equipment. PASE loading allows ordnancemen to rapidly re-arm jets while their engines are turning, which saves precious time in theater. Under the direction of MAWTS-1, 11 Marines received training on PASE loading during Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 2-06.
