Description
English: A fallen Marine memorial and missing man table greets all customers at the Wings of Freedom Dining Facility at Al Asad, Iraq. The table, more commonly known as a prisoner-of-war/missing-in-action table, and memorial were placed at the facilitys entrance to catch the attention of everyone who enters. According to The National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia, the items on the table have the following meanings: the table is round to show everlasting concern for those still missing, the white cloth is for the purity of their motives when answering the call to duty, the red rose in a vase is for the life of the missing and their loved ones and friends who are awaiting answers, the red ribbon around the vase is for the determination to account for the missing, a slice of lemon is for the bitter fate of those captured and missing, salt is for the tears endured by those missing and their families, the Bible represents strength gained through faith, the glass is inverted to symbolize their inability to share a toast and the chair is empty because they are missing.
