Description
English: They Came In Peace... the Beirut Memorial at the entrance to Camp Johnson with Abbé Godwin’s bronze standing eternal guard. Many of the victims of this catastrophe were Jacksonville residents; husbands, fathers, neighbors, fellow church members, little league coaches, friends. Their names are carved into the wall out of frame to the left. Extending from this location to the entrance of Camp Lejeune are the memorial Bradford Pear trees, one for each fallen serviceman. Their verdant white bloom every spring symbolizes peace and a spiritual continuum.
