English: A Humvee Egress Assistance Trainer flips Gunnery Sgt. Maxwell Williams, left, and Staff Sgt. Lamar Irby as it rolls over at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz., Sept. 22, 2009. “It was pretty intense,” said Irby. “The intent behind it is to give the mindset of what a rollover is like and to educate on how to minimize injuries if you’re ever in a rollover,” said Irby. The station received their trainer May 8, and approximately 200 Yuma-based Marines have received the training. The HEAT was adopted by the Corps Feb. 27, 2003, to decrease the deaths attributed to Humvee rollovers. According to the station safety department, 246 deaths and 900 injuries from rollovers were reported from January 2003 to August 2008. The HEAT is also a predeployment training requirement. |
