English: A Marine from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Landing Force Support Party guides in a Navy hovercraft loaded with Marines and equipment to begin a month-long training exercise here. The hovercraft, called a Landing Craft Air Cushioned (LCAC), ferried the Marines to shore from amphibious ships of the Nassau Amphibious Ready Group, which the 24th MEU is currently embarked on for a 7-month deployment that started in January. The training exercise in Djibouti will allow the Marines to sustain their warfighting skills while deployed. Each of the MEU’s units will participate in the exercise, including Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment; Marine Medium Tilt-Rotor Squadron VMM 162 (Reinforced); and Combat Logistics Battalion 24. |
