Description
English: Marines take fingerprints, iris scans and other information from Iraqi citizens using the Biometrics Automated Toolset in an Iraqi Police precinct in Fallujah on July 19. One of the largest key assets in this Fallujah-based operation, taking a backseat to the international cooperation between Marines and their Iraqi counterparts, is the BATS. U.S. forces are now using the BATS, which was initially fielded to identify people brought to military detention centers. Over time, however, the BATS has become a valuable and widely applied system database used everyday by many units throughout Iraq and Afghanistan. 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment is one such unit that has emplaced the system into their operational mission in the city and surrounding areas.
