Description The U.S. Military Sealift Command's Antarctic research ship USNS Tanner (T-AGS-40) tied up at the Newport News coal piers, Virginia (USA), in reserve status, 6 July 1996. The ship was then under the jurisdiction of the Maritime Commission as evidenced by the red/white/blue stripes on the smoke stack.
