Description The former U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) tied up at Naval Air Station, North Island, San Diego, California (USA), in October 1971. Bunker Hill had been decommissioned on 9 January 1947 and was re-classified as an aviation transport, AVT-9, in May 1959. Though stricken from the Naval Vessel Register in November 1966, Bunker Hill was still employed as a test platform for the Naval Electronics Laboratory Center. She was finally sold for scrapping in May 1973.
