editDescriptionUSS Carpenter (DD-825) in 1965.jpg | The U.S. Navy Gearing-class destroyer USS Carpenter (DD-825) in 1965. Carpenter was commissioned in 1949 as a specialised ASW-destroyer. In 1964-65, she received the FRAM I refit. The former DDEs kept the hightened bridge and the Mk 56 fire control radar. The 7.6cm/L70 turrets were replaced with only one standard 12.7 cm/L38 turret. Also a tripod mast was added in front of the second funnel. |
