Description The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Essex (CVS-9) in dry dock at the New York Naval Shipyard, in 1960. Essex had returned from her last deployment as an attack carrier (CVA) to Mayport, Florida (USA), on 26 February 1960 and was redesignated as an anti-submarine carrier on 3 March.
