Description
English: The U.S. Navy amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD-2) conducts a lift of opportunity of vintage military aircraft to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (USA), on 10 August 2020. "Salute Their Service, Honor Their Hope" is the theme of the commemoration in Hawaii in recognition of the WWII veterans and civilians who contributed to the end of the war. The 75th Commemoration of the End of WWII includee three "Legacy of Peace Aerial Parades" and culminated with the official ceremony aboard the battleship USS Missouri (BB-63) on 2 September 2020.
Visible aft on deck are two Consolidated PBY Catalina, a North American B-25 Mitchell an two North American T-6 Texan. Other aircraft transported included a Grumman F8F Bearcat and a North American P-51D Mustang.
