Description The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CVS-12) underway off Korea in April 1969. In response to the 1969 EC-121 shootdown incident on 15 April 1969, the United States assembled Task Force 71 off Korea, consisting of the aircraft carriers USS Hornet (CVS-12), USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14), USS Ranger (CVA-61) and USS Enterprise (CVAN-65), the battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62), three cruisers, 22 destroyers, five submarines and 200 aircraft.
