Summary edit

Description The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Jouett (DD-396) on 13 August 1945. In early 1945, Jouett was extensively rebuilt. Her Mk 12 127 mm/38 caliber guns in Mark 22 Single Purpose (surface action only) twin mounts were replaced by two dual purpose Mk 38 mounts fore and aft and a single Mk 30 turret aft. All torpedo launchers were removed, three 40 mm twin mounts and two quadruple mounts were added instead. The bridge was altered similar to the bridge of the Gearing-class destroyers. Her sistership USS Davis (DD-395) received the same modernization. However, all four surviving Somers-class destroyers were struck in 1946-47 and scrapped.
