Description

The U.S. Navy aircraft carriers USS Valley Forge (CV-45) (left) and USS Philippine Sea (CV-47) (center) at their anchorages at Sasebo, Japan, during Korean War resupply activities, 23 August 1950. The heavy cruiser in the right distance is USS Rochester (CA-124).

Valley Forge, with assigned Carrier Air Group 5 (CVG-5), was deployed to the Western Pacific and Korea from 1 May to 1 December 1950. Philippine Sea, with assigned CVG-11, was deployed to Korea from 5 July 1950 to 26 March 1951, and with CVG-2 from 28 March to 9 June 1951.
