Description The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge (CV-45) gets up steam as she prepares to leave Trincomalee, Ceylon, after a two-day visit by U.S. Task Force 38, 17 March 1948. The British heavy cruiser HMS Norfolk (78) is in the right background, and a Royal Navy light cruiser is partially visible at left. The Valley Forge, with assigned Carrier Air Group 11 (CVG-11), sailed westward around the globe from 9 October 1947 to 11 June 1948.
