English: Persian Gulf (Mar. 11, 2005) - Damage Controlman 3rd Class Charles Kihlmire, left, shows Fireman Nathaniel Mullenax how to use the Portable Exothermic Cutting Unit (PECU) during a damage control drill in the ship’s hangar bay aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). The PECU provides for more rapid access into areas of the ship where normal access is impaired during firefighting operations. It is also used to drain accumulated firefighting water from areas of the ship where the effects of the accumulated water will impair the ship's stability. The PECU replaced the portable oxyacetylene cutting unit. The Truman Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
