English: Al Khalidiyah, Iraq (Dec. 10, 2006) - Steelworker 3rd Class Bill Adams of Bainbridge Island, Wash., cuts away bent rebar from a blast hole in a bridge near Al Khalidiyah, Iraq. Adams and the rest of his Seabee crew fixed a 10-foot by 8-foot hole in a bridge across the Euphrates River caused by a suicide car bomb. The repair was done by Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One Eight (NMCB-18) and 3rd Naval Construction Regiment (3rd NCR) while security for the operation was provided by a Convoy Security Team (CST) from NMCB-74 in addition to Iraqi Army soldiers. NMCB-74 and NMCB-18 are part of 3rd NCR and all are deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Seabees and Marines of 3rd NCR use their construction skills to help build up the infrastructure necessary for Iraq to become a self-protecting and stable democracy.
