Description A U.S. Navy Lockheed P-3C Orion aircraft from Patrol Squadron VP-4 Skinny Dragons leads a Japanese Kawasaki P-3 in flight over a bilateral force of US and Japanese ships during exercise "RIMPAC '98". The ships in formation are led by the cruiser USS California (CGN-36), flanked by the cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG-62), the frigate USS Vandergrift (FFG-48) and accompanied by Japanese Maritime Self Defense ships Kirishima (DDG 174), Shirane (DDH 143), Murasame (DD 101), Harusame (DD 102), and Towada (AOE 422) and bringing up the rear of this formation is the attack submarine USS Key West (SSN-722).
