English: U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ryan Hastings (left), 28th Military Police Detachment, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, observes Philippine army and air force K-9 handlers during bite training with Philippine military working dog "Amor" during Balikatan 2012, April 19 at Clark Air Base, Philippines. Bilateral training helps maintain a high level of interoperability, enhances military-to-military relations and combined combat capabilities. Additionally, it increases our armed forces' ability to respond quickly and work together efficiently to provide relief and assistance in the event of natural disasters and other crises. Balikatan is an annual Republic of the Philippines-U.S. military exercise focusing on field training, humanitarian assistance and a command post exercise. The word balikatan in Filipino means "shoulder-to-shoulder." |
